内容简介:This paper investigates the effect of on-demand online food delivery services on restaurant sales by analyzing the weekly sales data of more than twenty thousand restaurants in Beijing, China. Both differences-in-differences and event-study results show that the opening of online food delivery services significantly increases restaurants’ total orders and revenue. Online food delivery services have no significant effect on the revenue of nearby restaurants that have never opened online food delivery services. Heterogeneity analysis indicates that the positive effect on revenue is larger for restaurants that offer fast and Chinese food, have lower prices, and are located in business districts where there are more young customers. Mechanism analysis reveals that online food delivery services not only significantly improve the market access of restaurants by expanding the geographic scope of orders, but also affect restaurant revenue by changing restaurants’ ratings.
演讲人简介:逄金栋,武汉大学经济与管理学院长聘副教授。本科、硕士毕业于西安交通大学,博士毕业于Syracuse University。主要研究领域为城市、区域、环境经济学。主持国家自然科学基金青年及面上项目,研究成果发表在Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics等知名国际期刊。
