Sustainable Development Open Lab Releases Inaugural Corporate Sustainability Assessment Report at COP29 Side Event 2024-12-06
The "China Corner" side event of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), titled "Green Low-Carbon Industry and Construction under Carbon Neutrality: Technical Breakthroughs and Policy Dialogue on the 3060 Path," was successfully held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 18. During this event, the Sustainable Development Open Lab (SD Open Lab) unveiled its groundbreaking Corporate Sustainability Assessment Report (CSAR) to the global audience.
Professor Geng Yong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Environmental and Social Governance (ESG Institute) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, presided over the release ceremony. The event was attended by key figures including Liu Tao, Co-founder & CTO of Mirage Information Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (MirageTech), and Song Zhigang, researcher at the ESG Institute. "This report embodies the vision and efforts of the SD Open Lab, highlighting corporate performance and potential in sustainable development," stated Professor Geng.
The inaugural CSAR analyzed data from over 8,000 listed companies worldwide, establishing a scientific corporate sustainability assessment framework that provides crucial guidance for business transformation and practices in sustainable development.
Advancing Global Sustainable Development
The SD Open Lab, jointly established by SJTU's ESG Institute and MirageTech, is technology and innovation-driven, aiming to become an authoritative independent laboratory with global influence, providing critical standards and data support for sustainable development worldwide. The ESG Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University was founded through collaboration between Antai College of Economics and Management and the Schools of Environmental Science, Mathematics, and Smart Energy.
The laboratory plans to undertake various initiatives in building data communities, developing open-source evaluation standards, establishing sustainable development infrastructure, and nurturing top talent.
Innovation and Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
The report's publication benefited from MirageTech's data and technical support, along with advisory input from the World Federation of Engineering Organizations' Committee on Engineering and Environment and the CFA Institute.
Following both domestic and international sustainability assessment standards, the report adheres to principles of "greatest common divisor," "pure public welfare," and "open sharing," presenting an unbiased global perspective. The SD Open Lab embraces openness and sharing, making its data processing and rating methodologies freely available to the public. It invites global stakeholders to provide feedback on the report and plans annual iterations to achieve broader social consensus, driving global sustainable development through innovation and collaboration.
