ACEM Hosts 2024 China International Conference in Economics and China Job Market (Economics) 2024-12-17

The 2024 China International Conference in Economics (CICE) and China Job Market (Economics) was held at Antai College of Economics and Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Xuhui Campus from December 13-15. The conference, themed “Innovation-Driven Chinese Economy,” brought together 12 renowned scholars and over 300 faculty members, students, and alumni, along with 35 registered recruiting institutions, including 26 on-site participants.

 

Opening Ceremony

CHEN Fangruo, Guangqi Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Dean of Antai College, delivered the opening address. He emphasized that the integration of theory and practice is crucial for innovation, aligning with Antai’s development strategy of “Integrating theory and practice.”

 

Keynote Speeches

Distinguished scholars presented their latest research findings during the keynote sessions. LIN Yifu, Dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University, discussed industrial policies for avoiding the middle-income trap. KOU Zonglai, Professor and Deputy Dean of the School of Economics at Fudan University, presented research on intellectual property judicial system reform using large language models. LIU Yuanchun, President of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, analyzed China’s macroeconomic policy positioning for 2025.

 

Following the morning session, DING Kuiling, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with the distinguished guests including LIN Yifu.

 

Special Reports

The afternoon sessions featured presentations by prominent scholars including DONG Feng from Tsinghua University, who discussed China’s structural monetary policy, and FAN Haichao from Fudan University, who presented research on trade war effects on carbon emissions. ZHANG Jun from Nanjing Audit University shared insights on market design theory applications in China’s education system.

 

The second day’s keynote speakers included WANG Pengfei from Peking University HSBC Business School, CHEN Shiyi from Fudan University, and ZHANG Guoxiong from Deloitte China. Special reports were delivered by FENG Shuaizhang from Jinan University, GAO Haoyu from Renmin University of China, and YU Miaojie from Liaoning University.

 

Deans’ Forum and Job Market

The conference also hosted a Deans’ Forum where representatives from 15 domestic universities discussed economic discipline development and knowledge system construction. The China Job Market (Economics) provided an efficient platform for academic recruitment through on-site interviews and networking events.

 

Closing Ceremony

ZHU Qinghua, Chair Professor and Associate Dean of Antai College, delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing three expectations: continued focus on China’s economic discipline development, engagement with Antai’s growth, and encouragement for global talent to conduct research in China.

 

The CICE was jointly initiated by 11 prestigious institutions, including schools from Peking University, Fudan University, Tsinghua University, and other leading universities, aiming to establish an open, high-level academic exchange platform for global scholars studying China’s economy.
